Passive House Project, Nottingham – Summer Update 2018
The Passive House project is now water tight despite some serious issues with an unscrupulous national roofing contractor

The Passive House project is going from strength to strength. The project is now water tight despite some serious issues.
Following on from some serious issues with an unscrupulous national roofing contractor, who is in the process of being reported to NFRC. However, to the rescue came Tony Hudson and his team who completed the pitched roof in an amazing Spanish slate.
The remaining IKO Armourplan flat roof areas, left by the original contractor, were completed by Rob Boddy at RB Specialist Roofing, Rob has a wealth of experience with IKO and Sarnafil and is highly recommended.
Airtightness is essential in Passive House designs
As the house is a passive designed project, it is extremely important to ensure the building is airtight to reduce potential energy losses, this obviously causes issues regarding the ventilation and comfort of occupants.
To ensure the building is air tight and also receives the required ventilation air changes MVHR systems in the form of two Sentinel Kinetic Plus units will be fitted, these will be installed by Leigh and Grant of Aspire Eco Energy who have already completed all first fix ducting without any issues. Grant and Leigh have completed the work to such a good standard that we will be commissioning them to complete the wood burning stove installation at a later date.
Energy Saving
The Passive House windows arrived direct from Poland after a 5 day road trip from Polish Interiors. In reality the journey will have created a large amount of CO2 during the delivery process, however the windows will massively contribute to the energy saving of the buildings lifetime, in turn this will offset the delivery many times over. The windows are all highly specified triple glazed performance windows meeting the strict passive house criteria.
Rendering in full flow
The renderers are in full flow with the external render system. An STO Lotusan render has been chosen as the preferred external finish due to its self-cleaning properties and air tight coating of the Logix insulated blocks. The rendering team are independent contractors and again can be highly recommended. Please contact us for details, via our contact page.
September Completion due to delays
The kitchen fitters have been on site from 30th June and they are making short work of the impressive design completed by Dylan at Clarke Home Interiors.
The contractors Roman and John of Castlegate Construction continue to complete the internal fit out works. Estimated completion is now September due to the roofing issues.
