Audiology House
At Encon Associates, we take pride in delivering landscape solutions that not only meet planning requirements but also elevate the experience of place. Check out our standout landscape design and maintenance scheme for the redevelopment of Audiology House, a historic site reborn into a residential haven.

Our scope focused on crafting and implementing a full Landscape Specification and Maintenance Plan, a key requirement from the local planning authority. We addressed every detail, ensuring the landscaping was visually compelling, and designed for long-term success.
Our strategy included:
- A full suite of hard and soft landscaping
- Carefully selected planting to support biodiversity
- Native hedgerow and wildflower borders
- Winter- and spring-flowering bulbs
- Shrubs and trees with ecological value
- A biodiverse brown roof on the new build
- A practical, annual maintenance schedule to ensure ongoing care

A Site Steeped in History – Reimagined for the Future
Originally built in the 1870s, Audiology House is a classic Victorian mansion with a rich past — including its time as part of the Mullard Electrical Works from 1923 onward. Over time, the building grew with industrial additions, but the latest chapter in its story brings thoughtful restoration, smart new design, and a bold landscape vision.
The Vision: Historic Character Meets Modern Living
The development includes:
-
The careful renovation of Audiology House, including the removal of industrial extensions.
-
The addition of two new sympathetic wings to the historic structure.
-
A brand new three-storey residential block to the rear of the site, with a striking saw-tooth roof nodding to the site’s industrial legacy.
Between these buildings, we created a private, communal landscaped courtyard — a green heart for residents to enjoy.

A Space That Grows With Its Residents
The result is a thriving, multi-layered landscape that adds charm, greenery, and long-term ecological value to the site. It creates a seamless connection between the historic and the new — a place where residents can enjoy both beauty and biodiversity.

We recently renovated a large early Edwardian home. Part of the planning approval was the need to obtain an excellent rating from BREEAM in our renovation. This covered everything from responsibly sourcing materials to energy efficient heat pumps and solar panels. Not being a developer the whole BREEAM process was very difficult to understand at first. Luckily we had Encon, and in particular, Glenn on our side. They provided invaluable advice and guidance, were reachable all the time and processed everything in a very timely manner. What was important was that we were able to seek their advice and counsel before we made key purchasing decisions. BREEAM is a complicated process and can seem overwhelming if unfamiliar with it. Having Encon on board with us had helped us achieve our goals of having an environmentally excellent renovation of a 1905 house.
