Sir John Robinson House
At Encon Associates, we continue to demonstrate our expertise in building performance analysis through advanced thermal modelling services. Our latest success story brings us to the iconic Sir John Robinson House—a historical council building where our team played a vital role in identifying critical thermal performance issues.

On behalf of Nottingham County Council, and in collaboration with Gleeds Building Surveying Ltd, Encon Associates was instructed to carry out a full Thermographic Survey of Sir John Robinson House. The aim was simple: assess the thermal integrity of the building and uncover any areas of energy loss.
Timeframe: 05:30 – 06:30
-
Client Nottingham County Council
-
Location Nottingham
-
Period 2024

Our Methodology
In line with BS EN 13187:1999, the Encon team performed a qualitative infrared inspection of all building facades. The survey was conducted under optimal pre-dawn conditions to ensure maximum contrast in surface temperatures, which is crucial for accurate thermal imaging.
Key Findings
Our thermographic survey successfully identified several performance concerns:
- Thermal Bridging at various junctions
- Air Leakage around window and door installations
- Temperature Differentials exceeding 3°C, clearly indicating areas of significant energy loss

Value Delivered
Our findings empower Nottingham County Council with the data they need to make informed decisions around:
- Energy performance improvements
- Remedial works planning
- Long-term asset management
- Compliance with thermal performance standards

Trusted by Local Authorities
This project stands as another example of how Encon Associates continues to support local government initiatives through reliable, standards-compliant, and actionable building surveys.
Whether you’re managing a modern office complex or a heritage building like Sir John Robinson House, our thermal modelling services deliver the insight you need to improve performance and reduce costs.

I have both employed and recommended Encon Associates Ltd for a number of the differing services they are able to provide and without exception, always been extremely satisfied with the cost, timescales and quality of the work produced.
The services in question have consisted of code assessments, BREEAM assessments and various environmental (sound, dust, contaminated land etc) assessments, all of which have been successfully undertaken with uttermost dedication by Glenn and Mark. I would have no hesitation in recommending them on future commissions in the knowledge that they will work with the team to achieve a satisfactory conclusion for the client.
