Why Choose Us?

Encon Associates provides comprehensive Noise at Work Assessment service to help companies comply with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations

We conduct high quality noise at work assessments to establish the noise levels that workers are being exposed to within an industrial or commercial environment.

The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that employers are providing a working environment where noise is at the lowest levels that are reasonably practicable and to ultimately protect workers from potential adverse health affects of noise exposure.
The Noise at Work Regulations outline thresholds where action is to ensure employee with regards to noise exposure.

Our qualified Acoustic Consultants work closely with companies and contractors to conduct precise Noise at work assessments in accordance with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, ensuring your business has a positive impact on human health and safety.

Understanding Noise at Work Assessment

What is a Noise at Work Assessment?

A Noise at Work Assessment is a formal process used to evaluate noise levels in the workplace and determine whether they pose a risk to employees’ hearing and health. As employers are legally required to ensure that risk from the exposure of their employees to noise is either eliminated at the source or, where this is not reasonably practicable, reduced to as low a level as is reasonably practicable.

This is done using specialist equipment like sound level meters or personal noise dosimeters, the average daily exposure and peak noise levels are recorded. This data is then compared with the Regulatory standards (The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 & The Health and Safety Executive) to see who is exposed, how often, and for how long

If controls are already in place, we ensure that they are working sufficiently for the employees. If health surveillance is needed? If controls are not in place, we suggest methods of reducing the exposure levels to create a safer and healthier work environment; this can be in the form of hearing protection zones, acoustic enclosures and various other methods, depending on the workplace.

Our Noise at Work Assessment service

The Encon Associates approach to Noise at Work Assessment

Our exhaustive assessment services cover a wide range of noise-sensitive projects, from commercial developments to industrial and infrastructure sites.

We use on-site noise monitoring to assess the impacts of noise on the employees and create a plan for mitigation. We can also create noise figures to show areas of the workplace that are the most hazardous and detail specific measures for each area if necessary.

We will work closely with the employers to create a plan that is both comprehensive and easy to implement, allowing for a faster transition to a healthier workplace.

Does a Noise at Work Assessment include recommendations for improvement?

Yes. Alongside accurate noise level measurements, your assessment report will include clear, practical recommendations tailored to your workplace. This can include engineering controls to reduce noise, administrative actions like shift rotation, suitable hearing protection, and advice on employee awareness training.

Frequently asked questions about Noise at Work Assessment

Want to know more about the benefits of Noise at Work Assessments?
If your workplace involves loud machinery, tools, or processes (common in construction, manufacturing, and engineering), a Noise at Work Assessment is essential. Any employer where daily or peak noise levels may exceed safe limits should have an assessment carried out to protect employees and remain legally compliant.
Failing to assess and manage noise exposure in the workplace can result in serious consequences. These include employee hearing loss, potential legal action, enforcement notices, and fines from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Beyond compliance, regular assessments demonstrate your commitment to employee safety and help foster a healthier, more productive work environment.
Our experienced consultants will visit your site to measure and monitor noise levels using calibrated equipment. We assess exposure levels across different roles and working environments, identify high-risk areas, and provide clear recommendations. A full written report will be delivered, including advice on hearing protection, control measures, and any legal obligations.
Noise at Work Assessment should be reviewed regularly—especially if there are changes to machinery, work processes, or the layout of the workplace that could affect noise levels. While there’s no fixed legal timeframe, assessments should typically be revisited every 2–3 years or sooner if significant changes occur.
